Stefan and I joined more than 80 students, faculty, staff, and partners to a MBA tournament held in Paris. It is an athletic event held each year by one of Europe's finest business schools, HEC. This tournament saw around 2,000 participants from more than 70 nationalities. 16 schools were represented, Rotterdam School of Management being one of them. Competition is always intense. The main goal of the tournament, though, is to create connectedness with the schools and increase cooperation, teamwork and promote networking opportunities for the students in each program.
Every sport imaginable was represented at MBAT: Tennis, Rugby, Soccer, Chess, Basketball, Volleyball, Rowing, Moutain Biking, Track and Field, even Salsa dancing, plus several more!! RSM was a relatively small school with a little more than 80 strong. We are told that London Business School always tops the charts at 250-300. Okay, so, obviously you can guess who won the overall tournament. But, there is something to be said for the underdog!!!! RSM ended up winning the "Spirit Award". We implemented a wonderful idea and brought "Cafe Rotterdam" to life. I am thinking that this extra work and dedication by RSM brought in the votes for the award. It probably didn't hurt that we presented the dean of the school with a token (an orange tree) of our appreciation for all of HEC's hard work. Along with the Spirit Award, RSM was also able to grab a large number of medals. We stole the gold in the Dualatholon, Biking Team, and Shot Put (I could be missing one). Silvered in chess and 100m. Stefan and I also played on the basketball team. We did a great job and silvered in that as well. We both have bangs and bruises to show for it. Our climbing team got bronze, not bad for a bunch of near 30 somethings and over!!
